A Quick Update

Steve again with a quick summary of the past few days. It has been a bit of a "roller-coaster ride" as Lee has continued to battle severe nausea and vomiting along with significant swings in her blood pressure and heart rate. Her headaches are an ever-present complicating factor but they have been able to manage those fairly effectively over the past few days. We had made some slow but steady progress in controlling the nausea/vomiting over the weekend and Lee was able to keep down quite a bit of liquids with the hope of progressing to more "full liquids" and possibly even "soft food" today. Unfortunately, it appears that a combination of her medicines given early this morning resulted in some severe sedation to the point that we've essentially lost most of today. The latest plan from the Resident who just saw her this afternoon and consulted with her doctor is to allow her to continue her slow recovery from the sedation in hopes of starting over with the incremental changes in her diet either later tonight or more likely tomorrow morning. They are also adding back one medicine she hasn't had during her stay but that has shown promise in the past for controlling several of her symptoms. So, the prayer request is for a continued recovery from the over-sedation and that the additional medicine will provide some sustained relief of her vomiting and heart-related symptoms. On the positive side, her primary care physician has been in contact with some of her specialists from New York and they are collaborating on some possible longer term strategies for evaluating and addressing the recent significant decline in Lee's health.
Thanks so much for the many notes and all of your continuous prayers since my last update. We have both been very encouraged by your posts and I assure you Lee reads them all many times over even if she can't reply to them. I will update again when I have more to report.

Prayer for Lee will continue. Hopefully, the specialists will be able to determine how best to help her. Over-
sedation in itself is worrisome.

My visit was lovely and Lee's beautiful face does not show the serious health problems her body hands her. Her peace and acceptance of God's grace are so present in that room.... it was lovely. Our family prays often for you both. We are so glad Dr. B is on board again!! Blessings~ All the Curralls

Lee and Steve, Todd and I were just talking about you guys the other day (as we often do) and mentioned that no news must be good news. We are saddened to learn that that was not the case. You are in our prayers and we hope that you will quickly conquer this first hurdle of
the oversedation and the dehydration. We know finding your path with your family issues being all the way across the county, and finding the strength to continue to fight and find the root cause of the setbacks, is more daunting. May you find the peace, wisdom and strength you need. Much love--Angie & Todd Eunice Goodwin September 17, 2013, 1:59 AM Still praying... Love to you both, Eunice and Dan

Thanks for the updates, Steve. I pray for you both every day but more specifically now that I hear this news. Lee, my precious daughter, how I pray for you. You and I both know that God's strength is made perfect in our weakness and His grace is all- sufficient. May He pour out on you an overwhelming, overflowing measure of that strength and grace. C. S. Lewis said, "God whispers to us in our
pleasures, speaks in our conscience, but shouts in our pains: it is His megaphone to rouse a deaf world." I know you have heard His voice loud and clear in your battle with pain and sickness. You are stronger for it. I pray with all my heart that you will find relief - permanent, blessed relief. You know, love is affectionate feeling, but more than that it is the constant, unceasing desire to see our loved one's ultimate good, and so I pray for you. I thank God for you, Steve. What an answer to prayer you have been. Love, Dad Jim

I was just asking David about you the other day. He is now Haleigh's assist principal. Please know that even without the updates you have been in my thoughts and prayers. I will continue to pray for you and Steve as well as your families and all medical staff involved. I love you guys so much. I apologize for not keeping in touch like I should have over the years (outside this website). You both will
always have a very special place in my heart. I look forward to hearing how God will bring you through this latest trial.

Steve and Lee, Susan Hatton just made me aware of this site tonight. I've been aware over the years that Lee had serious medical issues but not until I read through everything tonight did I really understand the depth of trials you have endured. I can't imagine how difficult these years have been on you both. I will be praying like crazy for you both and appreciate any updates you are able to give. Please give my love to Lee. Miss you both.

I hope you don't mind. As you have seen I've called on some prayer warriors from the days of "Jerry's kids". Some of us have been taking about having a family reunion of sorts with the old youth group. So now you have to get better. : ). So many love you and find it a privilege to pray for you. You have touched so many lives and are a blessing to us all!!!
